Residence: Building on Memories
Light-filled Living Room
The butter yellow walls and the 22’ long soft drapery frame the backyard view as you enter this room. The two story stone fireplace continues to bring the outdoors inside. Mesquite wood shelves hold family heirlooms as well as items from recent travels. The variety of texture and color combine with nature in this relaxing living area.
Building on Memories Challenge:
The family house had to go. It made no economical sense to remodel. The new contemporary home needed to be set in a grove of mesquite trees and the clients love natural materials and color. How to incorporate family antiques, Mexican art, mesquite and lots more into this home.
Solution:
The mesquite wood was salvaged from the cut trees, kiln dried, and made into a spiral staircase, floors, and accents. Tile, stone, and color separate areas. Niches and built-in cabinets offer display space. Antiques and contemporary furniture blend giving a warm feeling of “coming home” when you enter the house.
