Residence: Building on Memories
The Heart of the Home

The Heart of the Home

A large custom island provides ample space for this serious cook.  Lots of storage, equipment, and work areas make this a very functional kitchen.  The focal point is the coffee bar with its painting of the family farm house in Italy.

Building on Memories Challenge:

The family house had to go.  It made no economical sense to remodel.  The new contemporary home needed to be set in a grove of mesquite trees and the clients love natural materials and color.  How to incorporate family antiques, Mexican art, mesquite and lots more into this home.

Solution:

The mesquite wood was salvaged from the cut trees, kiln dried, and made into a spiral staircase, floors, and accents.  Tile, stone, and color separate areas.  Niches and built-in cabinets offer display space.  Antiques and contemporary furniture blend giving a warm feeling of “coming home” when you enter the house.
